Kids these days, eh? They just don’t appreciate the good things any more. Home cooked meals, spending time with your family, that’s what New York used to be like – or so they say.

If you’re nostalgic for the halcyon days of Old New York, of family-owned restaurants and small community gatherings, then chef Joe Isidori has your back. A third generation Italian American chef, Joe has been cooking for as long as he can remember. His father, Arthur, was a prominent chef in New York and taught Joe everything he knows about fine cuisine.

After training with his father, Joe would go on to make a name for himself at the Nemo Restaurant Group in Miami, eventually becoming the executive chef of Mar-A-Lago. With a pedigree like that, it was only a matter of time before he set off on his own to start his own restaurants – and that’s exactly what he did. Moving back to New York in 2011, he opened up Arthur on Smith in honor of his father who passed away that year. In 2015 he started Black Tap and took the city by storm with his over-the-top burgers and shakes stacked to the ceiling with assorted toppings.

While Black Tap may have taken the cake (or in this case… shake) in terms of extravagance, Joe is returning to his roots with his latest project – Arthur & Sons – opening later this year on 38 8th Avenue, between West 12th Street and Jane Street. Envisioned as a humble Old School Italian restaurant, Joe wants to bring a little piece of history back to the West Village and offer up the kind of authentic home cooking that used to be so ubiquitous in the neighborhood. Serving up fine meatballs, pasta, pizza, and premium sliced cheeses and meats, Arthur & Sons is a tribute to the family that made Joe who he is today.

Arthur & Sons will be replacing the Italian Wine Company store that previously occupied the space. A small but elegant affair, the new restaurant will offer a humble 850 square feet of space with a total of 12 tables. With a cozy space like that, it will become rather competitive to find a reservation. Be sure to follow the restaurant along on Instagram for further updates to be one of the first customers to try it out.
