That’s right, The Barking Dog Restaurant is finally getting ready to open up their second location. One of the only dog-friendly restaurants in Manhattan, locals have been eagerly awaiting news about the restaurant’s potential expansion. Thankfully, that day has come and What Now New York can confirm that the second Barking Dog will be making its way to Hells Kitchen at 329 West 49th Street.

The Barking Dog Restaurant has been a Carnegie Hill icon ever since it opened in 2018. The restaurant was founded by Emin Alliu, an immigrant who came to America from Europe over 30 years ago with a plan to one day open the restaurant of his dreams. He wanted to create a friendly neighborhood restaurant where people and their dogs feel at home, and he did! Thus, The Barking Dog was born.

While health code laws still mandate that dogs are not allowed inside NYC restaurants, The Barking Dog sought to alleviate the stress incurred by leaving your dog out on the streets of New York by creating an inviting, dog-friendly patio to accommodate your fuzzy friend. While you dine, waiters will also come to the patio to bring your dog treats and water to ensure they don’t feel left out.

Outside of their dog accommodations, their food is just as great. They offer traditional American favorites like sandwiches, wraps, burgers, pastas and salads. They even host doggy brunches on the weekend where groups of dog-owning friends can together and start their weekend of right with some pancakes and mimosas.

The new Barking Dog Restaurant will be replacing Mother Burger at 329 West 49th Street. Mother Burger was known for serving classic American fare and specializing in handcrafted burgers, but they were unfortunately forced to close when they converted a full vegan restaurant and moved further downtown. The building offers a humble 1,173 square feet of space on the ground floor, but considering Barking Dog’s focus on outdoor doggy dining, the restaurant will cover more space beyond its interior.

The lease is scheduled to start in October, and at the moment their website lists the new Hells Kitchen site as “coming soon”. Their uptown location is open and thriving though, so be sure to give them a visit if you and your dog are in the neighborhood. As their website states, “When you join us at the Barking Dog, we want you, and your pup, to have the best experience paw-ssible!”
